Weaning my 15-month-old son wasn’t just hard for him— it was hard for me too. I missed the closeness of breastfeeding, the way he’d snuggle into my chest and fall asleep. The first few days, I felt sad and even a little empty. But I reminded myself that weaning is a part of growing up, and it doesn’t mean our bond is getting weaker. We added extra cuddle time, like morning snuggles in bed and evening massages, to make up for the lost breastfeeding time. I also started keeping a journal, writing down my feelings and all the little things he did that made me proud. Over time, the sadness faded, and I felt proud of both of us for making it through. Weaning is an emotional journey for moms too— it’s okay to grieve the end of one chapter while celebrating the start of a new one.
